Summary

Ambition will fuel him。
Competition will drive him。
But power has its price。

It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games。 In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games。 The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute。

The odds are against him。 He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low。 Their fates are now completely intertwined—every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin。 Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death。 Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute 。 。 。 and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes。

This was a really enjoyable elaboration of President Snow's childhood。 I very much enjoyed it - so much that I read it twice。 This was a really enjoyable elaboration of President Snow's childhood。 I very much enjoyed it - so much that I read it twice。 。。。more

This book did not disappoint。 Usually prequels are disappointing and not nearly as good as the original series。 I can definitely say this was not the case for 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'。 This book did not disappoint。 Usually prequels are disappointing and not nearly as good as the original series。 I can definitely say this was not the case for 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'。 。。。more

I will always enjoy a novel from the world of Panem。 I did not enjoy this as much as the original trilogy but I don’t necessarily think that was the intention。Collins did a great job making me both abhor and sympathise with Snow, and the use of past tense corrected one of my major issues with the original trilogy。 On the downside, I feel the book was strong for the first two thirds but the last one sort of let it down。 Lucy Gray was such a big character and then she was just put into the backgro I will always enjoy a novel from the world of Panem。 I did not enjoy this as much as the original trilogy but I don’t necessarily think that was the intention。Collins did a great job making me both abhor and sympathise with Snow, and the use of past tense corrected one of my major issues with the original trilogy。 On the downside, I feel the book was strong for the first two thirds but the last one sort of let it down。 Lucy Gray was such a big character and then she was just put into the background。 I never believed that there was any amount of love between the two characters (though I’m not sure if that was intentional or not)。 I know this was Snows story, but it still left me feeling like something was missing。 Overall, I enjoyed the book and hope that Collins decides to delve more into the world of THG。 I know I’m not the only one who would love to hear more about Haymitch’s past and time in the games。 。。。more

hey snow!! thought i would have more empathy for him, and i did a little, but he wasted that in the end!! craziness seeing how the games first started and how terribly everyone was treated。 not like it’s much better in the hunger games but at least they get luxury apartments over a zoo cage。 n e ways, good stuff! love suzanne!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book was a 4 for me the whole time until the last hour。 I thought it dragged on and like usual, Collins spends so much time providing details for smell things and rushed through important action scenes。 I mean I didn’t even realize Lucy had died in the end。 Why did Collins make us follow this love story just for it to end with out an explanation。 I also did not like how Snow was not cunning or nice。 He just does what fits him best and is the easiest thing。 He didn’t even love Lucy just want This book was a 4 for me the whole time until the last hour。 I thought it dragged on and like usual, Collins spends so much time providing details for smell things and rushed through important action scenes。 I mean I didn’t even realize Lucy had died in the end。 Why did Collins make us follow this love story just for it to end with out an explanation。 I also did not like how Snow was not cunning or nice。 He just does what fits him best and is the easiest thing。 He didn’t even love Lucy just wanted to possess her。 I just would have liked more clear reasoning behind Snows actions。 He almost seemed to be at the right place right time with everything。 Overall, the writing and plot was my favorite out of the whole series。 。。。more

4。8Actually enjoyed reading about the past of President Snow, the Capitol and how the games evolved into what we know as the Hunger Games。 Quite an enjoyable read and I liked the ending, it had me thinking about it for quite some time。 Curious about the film adaptation being developed。

I admit to not being excited about this book when I found out it was about President Snow as a young man。 That said, I thought this was brilliantly done。 It both humanized him and explained how he became the villain of the Hunger Games books。 I loved the references to things like mocking jays and katniss。

I was so excited for this book, and it started off really well。 The pacing was good, I was enamoured… until I wasn’t。 This could very easily have been 2 books, but it wasn’t。 It slogged on and on and then ended in a severely disappointing fashion。 I’m glad I read it anyhow。

I very much enjoyed delving back into the “Hunger Games” universe。 It was really interesting to see how much the hunger games evolved, and how much impact Snow had in its development。 A lot is learned about Coriolanus Snow, and it was fun to get to know the character better, and to understand more why district 12 gets under his skin。 I would definitely recommend this prequel to anyone that enjoyed the “Hunger Games” trilogy。

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins ❄️So before you get too excited about what on earth this could be about- it’s about President Snow。 😳 *gasp* it was actually really good though!!! I plowed through the Hunger Games back when they came out so this book was nostalgic to when I got super into reading。 。。。more

Suzanne Collins has done it again。 I think I'm in the minority of people who loved this book, but I truly did。 I have so much to say about it, but I'll be careful of spoilers。Coriolanus Snow。。 who KNEW so much could be said about the villain of the original trilogy? And why am i finding myself sympathizing with him? My brain is wrecked and so is my heart。 A lot of things from the trilogy makes so much more sense now。 Suzanne Collins has done it again。 I think I'm in the minority of people who loved this book, but I truly did。 I have so much to say about it, but I'll be careful of spoilers。Coriolanus Snow。。 who KNEW so much could be said about the villain of the original trilogy? I。。。I liked this book? I think it was good。。。I think。。。 Worth the read I would say。 I think that it wasn't developed all the way。 It seemed the author didn't want to keep writing it, so she was like, "Well, that'll do I guess," and published it。 It's definitely not as good as the other Hunger Games books, which came to be no surprise。 I。absolutely。hated。his。attitude。 HE'S SO UNGRATEFUL OH MY GOODNESS! Sometimes I felt like I was just reading some rich boy whine about how privileged he was。 And T I。。。I liked this book? Sometimes I felt like I was just reading some rich boy whine about how privileged he was。 And Tigris。。 good old Tigris。 I feel bad for her。 She had to deal with that guy for so long and he just abandoned her。 UGH! This book made me mad while reading it。 I wanted him to change and grow, transform into a good person。 Buuuuut, magic isn't real。 So。 Yeah。 I also felt bad for his (almost?maybe?) girlfriend。 SHE DESERVED WAY BETTER THAN HIM! And yet, I was rooting for him? What has this book done to me。。。 I have no idea。 I was conflicted while reading this book。 He shared a teensy-weensy little bit of sympathy with Lucy, but then he kind of threw it all away at the end。 I was VERY angry, to say the least with his actions at the end。 Overall, I would say。。 read it。 It'll have you trying to pick sides, and you'll strangely enjoy it (maybe)。 Just give it a shot, but DON'T BUY THE BOOK。 RENT IT FROM THE LIBRARY!! If you don't like it (there's a 50/50 chance probably), then you can always give it back to the library。 And if you liked it so much, then after that go buy it。 But don't spend your money on something you don't know you'll enjoy (especially based on the other reviews for this book。 Not very many people liked it。)ALSO- There's gonna be a movie, so there's that。 。。。more

Hope is a deadly bittersweet feeling that lingers throughout most of this book。 As I've read the Hunger Games series I was not sure how I would feel about a young President Snow。 Multiple times I started to feel bad for the guy before remembering that there was no redemption for him。 It also answered the question about how the Hunger Games came to be and how they evolved。 I liked how it didn't try hard to outdo the other books but be its own thing with sprinkles of familiarity throughout。 Hope is a deadly bittersweet feeling that lingers throughout most of this book。 As I've read the Hunger Games series I was not sure how I would feel about a young President Snow。 Multiple times I started to feel bad for the guy before remembering that there was no redemption for him。 It also answered the question about how the Hunger Games came to be and how they evolved。 I liked how it didn't try hard to outdo the other books but be its own thing with sprinkles of familiarity throughout。 。。。more

An interesting prequel, providing insight into how Snow became president and how the Hunger Games really began。 However, it was quite longwinded and had many irrelevant details which took away from the story。
